We just received a report that Route 161 through St. John and St. Francis is now officially open. The river water in that area appears to have dropped several feet at this time. However, Maine DOT and Law Enforcement encourage motorists to be cautious traveling this roadway. We have also received reports from concerned citizens regarding ice flow below the International Bridge in Fort Kent. We are aware of ice and water movement in the St. Francis and St. John areas and are working closely with first responder agencies as well as Maine DOT to ensure the safety of all citizens in the affected area. We remind all citizens to steer clear of any ice flows and to never cross a flooded roadway – it is impossible to gauge the safety of the roadway below. Continued reports are coming in of ice movement and water issues on the Grimes Road in Caribou / North Caribou Road in Fort Fairfield. The road continues to be closed and impassable at this time. We encourage all motorists to please use alternate routes and remind everyone once again to never travel across flooded roadways.
