The Aroostook County EMA was in Sherman over the weekend. The Staff at the EMA taught a CERT class and Stop the Bleed class to residence of Southern Aroostook County and Northern Penobscot County. Over 12 different communities were represented. Thank you to the Staff of the Sherman Town Office for letting us use their facilities and Thank You to all the wonderful people who attended.
C.E.R.T. is a volunteer program that trains community members in basic fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster preparedness, and basic medical operations. The purpose of this class is to prepare individuals to help their communities during a disaster when professional responders may be overwhelmed.
The Stop the Bleed program is a national, American College of Surgeons-led initiative that trains the public to provide immediate, lifesaving care for severe, traumatic bleeding emergencies before professionals arrive. It focuses on three key actions: direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquet application.
Thank You again to all of you who helped make this class possible.
